Life Story for Stephen Perez

Stephen Perez
Stephen Perez passed from this life after a heroic battle on December 24, 2016. Stephen was born on October 5, 1964, in Dallas, Texas to Ismeal and Beatrice (“Bea Bea”) Perez. He was a sweet boy who idolized his big brother, Ismeal, Jr. Author Catherine Pulsifer wrote “As we grew up, my brothers acted like they didn’t care, but I always knew they looked out for me and were there! Stephen and Ismeal had a close brother relationship with lots of fighting and teasing but they loved each other and Stephen knew he could count on Ismeal, Jr. Tragedy hit when he was a young teenager, when his 21 year old brother, Ismeal L. Perez, Jr. died in a drowning accident. The loss of his brother was very difficult for Stephen during his teenage years. Stephen would carry this loss with him.

Stephen was an athlete and sports fanatic. He played football, soccer, baseball, bowling and even some boxing. Sports were always an important part of this life. He was a Cowboy’s fan from birth and remained a fan even in the tough years. He was looking forward to seeing his Cowboys win this year’s Super Bowl. His family hopes all of heaven will be watching God’s team this January.

A lot of healing came when he met a kindred spirit, Sara Nelson. Once they met, they were never apart. They had loads in common and they both filled a void in each other’s heart. They were married for 24 years and raised three beautiful children. Nothing settled Stephen’s soul like the birth of his son. Shortly after his birth, Stephen gave his life to Christ and from then on judged no man. He cleaned up his life and dedicated himself to his Lord and his family.

Stephen was very outspoken and an extrovert. He was always making people laugh and was a natural story teller. He would tell stories of himself, his dad and his beloved big brother. He would also act a fool in grocery stores to embarrass family and friends. Once he started, it was hard to get any shopping done because you would be laughing so hard and trying to get him to stop. Stephen’s opinions were strong and it was not uncommon for him to vent on Facebook. He saw no reason to hide who he was because as he would say “God knew” anyway. Being from a family of many outspoken members with strong opinions, lively debates were common place and many times everyone would agree to disagree. Stephen would often say I am who I am. Many loved who he was.

Stephen is survived by his loving wife Sara Perez; his beloved children Jennifer P, Veronica I and Vincent I Perez; his adored grandchildren, Janelle L and Brianna Dominguez; his loving parents, Beatrice and Ismeal Perez; and his beloved niece, Stephanie Puente, one great niece, 3 great nephews, 3 aunts, 1 uncle and numerous cousins. He joins in heaven his brother, Ismeal L. Perez, Jr.

Stephen will be remembered for his strong opinions, great stories, his love for his family and most of all his love for the Cowboys.
